Analysis of the relationship between stems and leaves and water content of saplings of Satsuma mandarin trees by laser leaf area meter

Citrus is the most widely cultivated fruit in the subtropical red soil region of China, but citrus orchards are mostly built in the hilly areas with poor water conditions. Soil moisture is the main environmental factor that restricts citrus production. Wenzhou Mandarin Orange is the largest cultivated citrus variety in China. The change of soil moisture brings a series of physiological and biochemical changes in the plant body, making the plant adapt to the environment. According to the laser leaf area meter study, the relative water content, the shoot length, the shoot growth, and the stem weight ratio of the fruit trees all decrease as the soil moisture decreases. At the same time, the mineral nutrient elements in leaves are also significantly different due to changes in tree species and soil moisture. At present, the relationship between soil moisture and tree growth is mostly concentrated in the arid and semi-arid regions of northwestern China, while the red soils in southern China have large rainfall, uneven distribution in seasons, severe seasonal droughts, and citrus soils, especially red soils under soil drought conditions. There are few studies on the relationship between the growth of soil and the soil moisture of Satsuma mandarin widely planted on the slope land, especially the quantitative study on the response of citrus growth to soil moisture.

Soil Water Content (SWC) Monitoring and Control: After the soil moisture content of each treatment is calculated, the pots and soil are covered with plastic film to prevent evaporation of the soil surface and the pot body; the soil water content is precisely measured with the soil moisture precision probe. The content was corrected by a drying method (longitudinally mixed samples were taken with a tube sampler and soil samples were taken at 3 points per pot), and water was added in a timely manner according to the soil weight in the pots. The water content in the pot was controlled within the experimental design range. Keeping the water content of the above treatments constant, the temperature and humidity changes during the experiment are relatively stable. The leaf area was measured using a laser leaf area meter.

The cooperation of the laser leaf area meter and soil moisture meter found that soil moisture is an important material basis for the composition of the tree, and it is also a prerequisite for metabolism. For example, decomposition of organic matter in the soil, nutrient absorption, transportation, and photosynthesis are all carried out under water conditions. The leaf is an important part of the plant, and the change of leaf number and its growth are very sensitive to environmental factors. When many plants are stressed by soil water, the most sensitive process is the growth of the leaf. The fruit trees are affected by soil water stress, and the sensitive performance is that the growth of stems and leaves is inhibited.
