According to foreign media reports, thieves are now able to silently steal vehicles equipped with a “keyless system†in just one minute. As a result, vehicle thefts have shown a dramatic increase.
This method is also simple to say, just buy two cheap relays and make the vehicle mistakenly think that the key card is nearby. According to an estimate by Manchester Evening News, the increase in the number of stolen goods items in recent years has reached 44%, and this is only the city's only place.
With the deployment of “keyless†technology by car companies, the police have warned users to pay attention to safety and informed them of various preventive measures to prevent theft of vehicles or car contents, including the use of outdated crook locks.
So, how does this kind of "transmitter relay" access control intrusion work? First, thieves buy a relay amplifier and transmitter, which can be found anywhere on the Internet and costs only a few hundred pounds.
A burglar holds a transmitter and stands near the vehicle, while the other holds a relay amplifier and stands outside the house where the vehicle is docked.
If the distance from the vehicle's key fob is close enough, the amplifier will probe the key-card signal through the door, the wall and the window and amplify it, and then send the signal to the accomplice transmitter.
Then, the transmitter disguised as a key fob and tricked the vehicle into thinking it was nearby.
In this way, thieves will be able to open the car door smoothly. Just press the start button and it will take longer to complete. The entire theft process takes less than a minute.
The original intention of configuring the keyless entry function for the vehicle is to provide convenience for the driver, and it is not necessary to carry the key card with the user without touching the key card or pressing the key card before entering the vehicle.
However, according to tests conducted by the German Automobile Association (ADAC), many on-board key-sensor technologies are "tricked" by the above-mentioned means, and mistakenly believe that the owner of the key truck is nearby.
It is said that the keyless entry technology of nearly 30 vehicles has been unlocked.
There are currently dozens of models that have been “hackedâ€. During the testing period in Germany, the list of models with keyless entry systems cracked is as follows:
