Sino-U.S. Clean Energy Practicing Cooperation Strategy Forum Held

The first "China-US Clean Energy Practical Cooperation Strategy Forum" was grandly opened at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on the 22nd. Li Keqiang, vice premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, arrived at the scene and delivered a speech entitled "Strengthening Pragmatic Cooperation to Promote Sustainable Development." U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and U.S. Secretary of Energy Zhu Xiwen delivered keynote speeches to the forum through video.

Li Keqiang said that the Chinese government fully understands the importance and urgency of responding to climate change, and adheres to the basic national policy of energy conservation and environmental protection, and proposes the reduction of energy consumption per unit of GDP, and the planning targets for the reduction of major pollutants:

“Over the past three years, the country’s energy consumption per unit of GDP has dropped by 10.1%, and it has dropped by 3.4% in the first half of this year. China’s new energy and renewable energy have developed rapidly. The installed capacity of wind power has doubled for three consecutive years, and the solar photovoltaic power generation device has become the largest in the world. The country of application for solar water heaters is the largest in the world."

Li Keqiang said that China and the United States have different national conditions and different development stages. However, they all face common challenges in dealing with climate change and promoting sustainable energy development. The two countries have their own characteristics in the development of clean energy, and their cooperation has great potential.

To this end, Li Keqiang proposed three suggestions: “One is to clarify the focus of cooperation. This is an urgent matter for strengthening pragmatic cooperation. Second, establishing a cooperation mechanism can select a number of clean energy technologies and industrial fields, and use appropriate channels to form the research and production phase. The third is to strengthen dialogue and consultation. Both parties should actively play the roles of various agencies such as the government, communities and think tanks, and serve the enterprises of both sides for the benefit of both peoples."

The first "China-US Clean Energy Practical Cooperation Strategy Forum" was grandly opened at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse on the 22nd.

When the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke through the video, the forum provided an opportunity for the United States and China to make substantive progress in addressing the issue of climate change between China and the United States. Hillary said, “We held this forum at a crucial moment. In the next two months or so, the international community will gather in Copenhagen to formulate a global agreement to deal with the climate crisis. We have worked hard for this forum. It will help our planet to enjoy peace."

Zheng Bijian, president of the China Strategic and Management Research Association, said in a speech that the forum is not only a strategic research level, but also has the characteristics of pragmatic cooperation. The global climate change challenges facing China and the United States are the same, the international energy resources and environment are similar, and the benefits of jointly promoting a clean energy strategy are similar. At present and for a period to come, China and the United States can effectively strengthen strategic cooperation in the following four areas: First, cooperation in energy conservation and improvement of energy efficiency. The second is the cooperative development and application of clean coal technology. The third is to cooperate in the development of new energy and renewable energy. The fourth is to cooperate in maintaining international energy market security.

The China-US Clean Energy Practical Cooperation Strategic Forum was initiated by Zheng Bijian and initiated by the Chinese and US think tanks, the China Strategic and Management Research Association, and the Brookings Institution of the United States, with the support of the governments of China and the United States. The purpose of the forum is to seek in-depth discussions between both parties to clarify the contours of their national strategies in the field of clean energy between China and the United States, explore the intersection of clean energy strategies and interests between the two sides, and use this as an opportunity to promote the business community and research between China and the United States. Pragmatic cooperation between institutions and cities and regions.

More than 200 people from political, business and academic circles in China and the United States participated in the in-depth communication and discussion on the overall strategic objectives of China-US clean energy cooperation and the pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in the field of clean energy. Topics include the use of clean coal, Solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy.
