Alewijnse installs power system for cable-laying boats

       Dutch ship technologist Alewijnse Marine Systems has completed the installation of the complete power system for the "Nexus". It is reported that this 112-meter-long innovative cable-laying ship was built by Damen Shipyard Group for the offshore contractor VanOord.
       The construction of this powerful diesel-electric DP2 ship was carried out at the Dalat Galati shipyard in Romania. The power installation project is jointly managed by Alewijnse Noord and Alewijnse Marine Galati in the Netherlands. The scope of supply includes all onboard power systems, propulsion drives and motor installations.
       Other equipment includes an integrated bridge system and a power system for high-quality accommodation with a total power installation of approximately 10 MW, including two propulsion drives, with a single output of 2 MW.
        The contract was signed in October 2013. The design, engineering and installation took only 14 months. The ship was also delivered to the shipowner in advance. It is currently located in Vlissingen, The Netherlands, and Alewijnse and VanOord have collaborated to integrate the ship's electrical installation and system into Cable laying equipment on board.
