Novomer Launches Sacrificial Adhesives for Clean Burning

Novomer, a market-leading materials company for plastics, polymers and other chemicals, announced that it will introduce the new product NB-180, a polypropylene-based (PPC) sacrificial adhesive that compares favorably with current similar products. Clean combustion and dispersion are more uniform at low temperatures.
Sacrificial adhesives are used throughout the manufacturing process and perform many tasks such as providing mechanical strength to ensure uniform sustainability, curing or bonding during manufacturing. The application range is very extensive and includes advanced ceramics, microelectronics, nanotechnology, metal welding and fuel cells.
NB-180 is an amorphous, colorless, thermoplastic polymer that is completely degradable and can be uniformly formed into benign products that are harmless to the environment, making it suitable for use in high-performance environments. Its purity and low ash residue make the NB-180 an ideal sacrificial adhesive for precision micro/nano-scale devices.
The NB-180 burns cleaner than its competing products. The residual value of ash is also well below five parts per million. Based on 3% binder usage, the final part has less than one percent ash residue. Lower residual values mean lower defective rates and other quality issues in manufacturing.
Compared to similar products on the market today, NB-180 can also be degraded at relatively low temperatures. For example, it can be completely degraded at 250 degrees in air and begins to degrade at 180 degrees. This degradation temperature is at least 50 degrees lower than the currently used adhesives. Complete decomposition can be achieved at 300 degrees in inert gases such as nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen.
